One can make a tour during any part of the year otherwise the best time to visit is from October to February, as the area bears hot and humid climate with maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius and minimum 37 degrees in summers, winters are pleasant with maximum temp. 30 degrees and minimum 21 degrees.
Main attractions of the city
Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is eminent for rare avian species. It is ultimate topography for migratory birds stretching over a swampy area of 29km.Over 353 species of bird inhabitant and breed within the park. The terrestrial birds are grey partridge, red wattle lapwing, common quail, egrets, and cormorants, grey herons, sarus crane, rosy headed pelican and highly endangered Siberian crane. Bird lovers from all over the world travel thousand miles to have a glimpse of this marvel of creation. There are also numerous reptiles and mammals like spotted deer, sambar, nilgai, porcupine, python and wild boar.
Easy accessibility to the park is through boat safari that gives one a closer panorama to these enchanting creatures. Personal vehicles are not permissible within the sanctuary, to roam around one has to hire a rickshaw or move around on foot.
Deeg at a distance of 32 km. from the town is famous for its forts, palaces and ravishing Mughal gardens once the royal leisure place for the Maharajas of Bharatpur, a must visiting sight. Deeg is 35 km from Mathura, 75 km and 152 km from Delhi.
Built by Raja Suraj Mal in 18th century is one of the magnificent forts of the Rajput era. A permit has to be obtained from the entrance to visit the premises.
Encompass the fort is the museum with a unique accumulation of sculptures, paintings and Royal dresses of the Maharajas.
This majestic cenotaph is a sparkling amalgam of Mughal and Rajput architecture, a visitor will love to vigil.
For territorial sightseeing, tangas (horse carts) and cycle-rickshaws are accessible. Mini buses are operated by the Forest Rest House from the park.
MODE OF TRANSPORTATION
Agra 54 kms. is the nearest airport to the town. However, suitable airhead is Delhi 182km. and Jaipur 174km. as there is no direct link to Agra from Mumbay.
Bharatpur can be approached by rail on Bombay-Delhi sector of Western Railways. The major railhead is 6km. from the park.
